I've spent the past 18 months developing a web-based database that includes 400+ Vancouver spot rezonings initiated since 2018. However I search out, slice and dice the data (there are 40 columns in the sheet), the results call into question what information is being shared not just with the public and the development community, but even with City Council.
This presentation may assist those concerned about how long it takes to get from application to construction, and whether their project is next in line (or never in line).
City staff have recently made coding changes that make data acquisition even more difficult—it's not clear yet whether the changes are accidental or deliberate—we are following that thread. Meantime, I have figured out how to share existing data to each neighbourhood and crowdsource new and emerging project data from citizens. Attendees will be invited to participate in that effort.
The approach I’ve taken is applicable to pretty much any community that does not share data well, and I will be offering attendees (free) access to my database of 400+ Vancouver rezoning projects from 2018. It's easily translatable to any municipality.
